Today, the Hunter Valley is one of Australia's most well-known and loved wine regions. There are over 120 wineries producing a wide array of exceptional wines reflective of their origin. The region is made up of a number of small communities townships and locations, each with their own secrets to reveal. There are a huge selection of Cellar doors in the Hunter Valley from the larger well know wineries to some wonderful boutique wineries. Many have a food outlet or galleries so touring around can be real fun so plan your own itinerary and visit some of fabulous places below.
The Hunter loosely can be divided into a number of discreet areas. Broke Fordwich is called the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley with spectacular views and the iconic Yellow Rock Escarpment. It has 11 award winning cellar doors including the renowned Margan Family wines and Restaurant, Krinklewood Bio-dynamic wines, Mount Broke and Whispering Brook. Lovedale and Rothbury, is known for its annual Long Lunch. This area has great selection cellar doors and restaurants such as Leaves and Fishes and the delicious Tatler Tapas. Pokolbin is the commercial hub with a great selection of cellar doors including big names like Tyrrell, Tulloch, McGuigan and Drayton. The Hermitage Road at the northern end of Pokolbin, has over 14 cellar doors including Maquaridale Organic wines and the wonderful Mistletoe with its great gallery. It is also the home of Binnorie Dairy and the Matilda Bay Brewhouse. There are also some other great wineries and cellar doors in Wollombi, Mount View, the home of Bistro Molines.
